Biodiesel and Renewable Diesel Product Announcement

April 29, 2021

Dear Valued Customer:

For many months, if not years, the major truck stop operators and many cardlock fuel operators in greater Southern California, have made B20 Biodiesel and Renewable Diesel one of their standard product offerings.

Starting in mid-May, Downs Energy plans to join these operators and will also make B20 Biodiesel and Renewable Diesel a standard Diesel product offering for our Cardlock, Bobtail and Wet Hose customers.

On any given day, depending on the supply that is available to us, the Diesel dispensed to you at our Cardlocks, or delivered to you as a Bobtail or Wet Hose customer, will consist of various quantities of the following:

  • CARB #2 Diesel containing up to 5% Biodiesel
  • Renewable Diesel containing up to 5% Biodiesel
  • CARB #2 Diesel containing up to 20% Biodiesel – Known as B20
  • Renewable Diesel containing up to 20% Biodiesel – Known as RD80

Red (off road) CARB Diesel #2 fuel is not affected and will remain as is. (This product currently contains 5% Biodiesel.)

Biodiesel and Renewable Diesel are essentially made from the same raw materials, but a different production process is utilized for Renewable Diesel. The result of the production process is that Renewable Diesel is chemically identical to petroleum diesel and meets the same ASTM specification.

The state of California supports and promotes the use of these fuels because both Biodiesel and Renewable Diesel reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

We have provided these links to Biodiesel and Renewable Diesel information published by the Renewable Energy Group, a global producer and supplier of these fuels:
